Erica Purnell is a multidisciplinary artist from Brooklyn NY. She comes from a family of writers, musicians and visual artists that gave Erica her exposure early to her talent. Erica developed her art from her father's comic books emulating characters for hours on her grandad’s coffee table. She moved frequently in her life which aids in her open and personable nature; however, Erica would encompass loss very frequently in her life which caused a void of communication in her emotions. It was in her art that Erica found her voice and refuge from the untold feelings.
Erica studied at The Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC traversing disciplines of painting, drawing, photography and digital to her main area of expertise in Communications Design. She became widely known as “Pink Eye”, an alias to express how people “caught on” to her work by word of mouth. Erica sold clothing and footwear globally featuring her abstract art since 2003.
Erica's evolution to creating large scale canvas paintings and murals coincides with her bold style, personality and her message to "create to communicate". Erica uses large unapologetic strokes and bright tones to convey the feelings and stories she wants to share to ascend and heal herself and others.
Erica has been featured in print and online publications for her story and her art. She has also presented work nationally at various galleries and group shows in NYC, Los Angeles, Miami, Boston and Philadelphia.
